Where are Acton's police?

I just spent a really unpleasant morning at the market being harrassed by a loopy Romanian (I know he was both because who else would harrass me and he kept flashing his Romanian ID card) I suppose I should be grateful that was all he flashed - but he did spit at two of the women with me and was threatening enough to be on the cusp between iritating and frightening.No police presence,Four handbags/purses stolen from the market this week: no sign of the policeDrunks, in numbers, drinking beer from cans on the steps of St Mary's in spite of it being a drinking exclusion zone. No police to stop them.None of these things warrented a 999 call but just one community policeman or woman visible would have made all the difference. Were they all on a half-term holiday? Surely not.

Flat to let?

I am searching for an apartment for a colleague who currently runs our Hong Kong Office. He is looking for a one bed apartment near shops and amenities. He will arrive in London in or around 27 June and will stay till 5 December. His budget is between £800 and £1200 per month. As he is not in London I will be looking on his behalf. Save 91 Shakespeare - meeting Wednesday June 8th

The owner of number 91 Shakespeare Road has had his development on the site rejected by Ealing Council. We are a group of local residents who oppose this development as well. This development was rejected on three grounds:  Overdevelopment. This is a three house plot and it contains three narrow houses and a block of flats. It’s too much.  Amenity. All of the new properties do not meet the requirement for outside space, and the development itself overlooks and removes amenity from the neighbours.  A Parking Stacker. The provision of an underground hydraulic Parking Stacker is not in keeping and is a potential nuisance, both itself and the cars that will use it. The owner has taken his plans to the Appeals Inspectorate and we now have to face an Appeal hearing later on this year – probably in early September. The developer’s associate has put in another proposal on the same site using a set of plans previously rejected by Ealing’s Planning Department on the original proposal. I suspect there will be another appeal on these ‘new’ plans in due course. The unanimous rejection of the original proposal at the Council Planning meeting was the first victory of a longer campaign; we are going to have to continue to fight if we are to stop this appalling, out of keeping development in our area. We need your support. I’ve arranged a meeting to discuss our progress thus far and to see how we should continue to oppose effectively, and I do hope that you’ll be able to make it. Please bring along anybody else you think might be interested. I hope that some, if not all, of our Ward Councillors will be there. Car hitting other cars on Goldsmith Road last night

All,Rather unfortunate experience last night around midnight, when woken up by a guy driving up the wrong way of Goldsmith road, hitting cars as he went up. I understand he even tried to perform a three point turn (anyone who has ever used Goldmsith road would know this isn't the best of ideas). The driver, clearly off his head on booze or drugs then walked off, though he did come back briefly to collect something from the car before leaving the scene again (clearly this guy know not to leave valuables in his car at night)!I Read a lot of slagging of the police of late, and so wanted to share my experience. They were superb, took about 8 minutes to arrive but two cars did, they inspected every car in the street by torch light (and it was raining very hard by then), put notes on the cars they thought may have been damaged as they thought it too late to wake people up. Came into my house and took some notes, they appeared to wait around for very long time in case the guy came back and eventually another police car arrived and the abandonded car was driven off.The guys were in every way a credit to the force. Community Family  Fun Day/The Big Lunch

Open Garden Squares Weekend – 11th and 12th June, 2011

The summer starts here as two gardens in Grove Park, Chiswick, open their gates to the public as part of Open Garden Squares Weekend. Hanwell Carnival

It’s Hanwell Carnival on June 18th (Elthorne Park) but there are events in the run up too. This Friday (10th) at William Hobbayne Centre at 7.30pm is a Fashion Mash up. It's like a Fashion Swish. Bring along an item or two of clothing you don't wear any more and browse the rails to see what others have brought.  Normally a swish is free, of course, but to make money for carnival charities there is a £2 entry  fee (inc a glass of wine) and then there will be a small charge for clothes. More like a charity shop - but it should be a fun evening!   And if you have ever fancied being in the record books?On Sunday June 12th you can! The Carnival organizers are planning to put Hanwell on the world map by getting into the Guinness Book Of Records TM   ……   by gathering together people wearing their dressing gowns! Where? St Mark’s School, Green Lane at 10 am. Entry is free – though you will have the chance to have an official photo taken. Fire in Shakespeare Road today

I'm searching for an update on the house fire in Shakespeare Road today, around 5.15pm.  I passed there as it was just getting hold and half an hour later I passed again and 3 fire engines were there.  Any news?  I do hope the house was empty.  The windows were open upstairs and the neighbours were just coming out of their homes and banging like mad on the door to alert anyone inside.

Had a rather "Legally Blonde" therapy session with Ellie at Pro-hands:Douglas Adams' answer to Life, the universe and everything was 42 and hers is gel nails - more helpful really. Anyhow they look fab and apparently last for about three weeks even if you garden with them.

3Spices -- gone!!

Heartbreaking news that 3 Spices on Churchfield Road is gone.  I always thought it was great Indian food and had some great meals from there but, as is the case these days, I haven't been there for a while, so feel doubly badly.  So sad to see it go.

South Acton Most Improved Recycling Ward

Perhaps now South Acton have been allocated twenty thousand pounds this money could be well spent on cleaning the rubbish up in the local recreation parks especially the Avenue rd park and south acton recreation ground. Take a stroll any time of the week around these area's you will be shocked especially around the perimeter, the rubbish has not been picked up for four years to date . If this cannot be done perhaps they  could consider finishing the play area they seemed to of left half finished. The swings have not been replaced for eight monthsno where to go no where to play.

CCA Quiz - 10th June - sign up now

Just to remind you - the CCA Quiz will be held downstairs at Kalinka Restaurant at 138 Churchfield Road on Friday 10th June at 7:00pm for 7:30pm. Entry fee is only £3 per person payable on the night (and includes some nibbles for each team), teams (max 6) can be formed in advance or on the evening - if you don't have a team, come along and we'll fix you up on the night. You can order food and drinks throughout the evening.It's always good fun and always well attended - we have space for 6 or 7 teams tops so please let us know as soon as possible if you'd like to come along by replying to this email with ALL the names of your team members, plus your team name if you have one.
