My Cockerel Problem.

I have a cockerel, and I found out that one of my neighbours complained about my cockerel, they came to my house and were very rude to my brother, they then called the RSPCA. They came and said that my cockerel is EXCELLENT. I called the council and they said it is fine to have one in Acton.Now they are making a petition around the area. However my neighbours who are right near me dont mind the noise. The people who are making the complaint are many HOUSES away.What do you think?

half term events for small(ish) children

We're being visited by two five year-olds and a two year old (we'll also have a 14 month old)this coming week. Does anyone know of any kid's activities in the local area that might keep them amused?

Looking to donate unwanted art materials?

I recently helped to set up an art group for adults with learning disabilities in Ealing and although we have a small amount of funding, we are looking to save on expenses. If anyone has unwanted art materials (paints, mosaic tiles etc.) or useful equipment (easels, brushes etc.) please let me know - any items would be greatly appreciated. The group will be having an exhibition in September, but I'll post more about that closer to the time.

No puns please (oh, go on then!) but there was a headless chicken this morning on Bromyard Avenue at the site entrance, the workmen disposed of it. Not sure where it's come from but I'm guessing a fox left it there...

Please sign petition to help save Aaron Vargas

Aaron Vargas was arrested on February 8th, 2009 for allegedly killing the man who sexually and psychologically abused him for 20 years. The abuser, Darrell McNeill, abused many children in the small community of Fort Bragg, California. McNeill was a well-known realtor, Boy Scout leader, and Big Brother. The abuse was reported to the police by victims, and by McNeill's former wife, but no investigation was done - McNeill was never even questioned. McNeill stalked and harassed Aaron up until the day he died, even asking to see and to babysit Aaron's child. He harassed other victims as well, including one who committed suicide four years ago. Aaron is a kind, caring, selfless person, and loving father. His community, as well as the McNeill family, support him and do not want him to be sent to prison. possible local scammer?

Just had a man ring in my doorbell with a little note saying he is deaf and is selling paintings to earn money. From inside the house I called to my daughter who opened the door that I had no money in the house (use my debit card usually), and he seemed to hear that okay. He could be genuine but just wanted to warn people

Having disposed of David Laws as Chief Secretary of the Treasury they are now after his replacement, Danny Alexander (former PR bod for the Caledonian Forest National Park)OK David Laws may have been in the wrong but should the editor or perhaps proprietors (Barclay Bros) have this much power? What else are they sitting on and how will they use it to destabilize the govt?PS I am not a fan of the ConDems but concerned about where this is all heading.....Discuss

Eurovision Prediction

I havent watched the Eurovision Song Contest for many a year but yesterday saw a brief clip from the semi-finals.Its not over til the fat lady sings..and the fat lady is Hera Bjork from Iceland and her song 'Je Ne Sais Quoi'.  As Katie Boyle would have said ''Douze points'' I've never been in a betting shop in my life or gambled when in Las Vegas but just been down to PaddyPower and got 20-1 on Mount Hera to erupt and win!

Why was Toby Young outside Acton High School today at lunchtime? He had a video camera and clearly required the school as the background. Curiouser and curiouser. At least he's being open and up front about his plans.

Acton's First Free School?

Still not clear on the answer to my question in the 'Swedish Schools' strand on what exactly is 'free' about the proposed 'free schools'. Central Government will control them in the same way they have in practice controlled all schools for some time. I'll try another tack. All primary and secondary education has been free in England in the sense of not charging since the Wartime Coalition's 1944 Education Act, and many schools were free before that. I know that Acton High and its predecessors go back to 1906, that its alumni include two members of The Who and set up the Old Actonians sports and social club and that fagging continued into the 1950s.I think Derwentwater pre-dates Acton High, but Ellen Wilkinson, West Acton and Twyford came later. That's about the sum total of my knowledge.Anyone know when Berrymede or other Acton schools began?

Police car blocking Larden from the Vale and several fire engines, but no smoke to see. Someone told me there was something going on there the other day as well.

Asda takes over Netto

Asda announced today they have bought Netto in a bid to have more smaller shops across the UK. The Netto name will be replaced by Asda. As the Netto store in Acton is only 5mins from the Asda store I doubt if they will want to keep both. Another vacant property in Acton?
