Churchfield Community Association 26th November

Immediately following the AGM, there will be an open meeting on Health in Acton which should be of interest to most of the forum. Speakers include a local GP, a representative of Save our Hospitals, the Chair of Healthwatch Ealing. Everyone is welcome and there will be free food from LOriental. Everyone Active @ Twyford Sports Centre

For anyone who didn't already know this membership of the Acton Centre also gives you access to the classes at Twyford Sports Centre (Twyford High School). These have been running for years so it's a bit less chaotic than the new place. The yoga, aerobics, body conditioning and circuits are all very good but I think they may have some new classes as well...

Thames Water and their "free fat trap offer"

Yesterday we received a flyer from Thames Water on blocked drains and an offer for a "free fat trap" to collect waste cooking oil. I logged on to the link given for this offer and low and behold the offer is nowhere to be found on the website.  I then 'phoned on the normal rate landline and was told the link was down and given a number to call. An extremely abrupt lady told me that they had run out of fat traps, so I questioned why they should send out the promotion if they could not fulfill it? She replied that it was nothing to do with her. I then asked to speak to someone in customer services and her comment was "what about a free item?" and gave me an 0845 number. Some customer service.

Found Dog- corner of Berrymead Gardens and Avenue Road

street  cleaning  a  joke

our  street  is  full  of leaves   broken bottles and  plastic bottles  and  garden  waste  in  black  bags they  came  to  clean  2  little  green  bags they  picked  what  a  joke online  council  site down  going  to  phone  now  god  help  us  with  the  cut  backs  i  know  people  are to  blame  leaving  rubbish  out for  days b4 collection  day  and  garden  waste  in  black  bags  but  when  a guy  sees  glass  etc  they  should  pick  it  up we  are  on  newton  ave  brouncker  rd

Acton webcams on line

The BBC were reporting today that householders who use webcams to monitor their homes my be unaware that others could hack into the cams if not secure.The forum here in bexhill gave a website address and low and behold 3 webcams in acton were displayed - a shop and 2 living rooms! The website is suddenly not accessible (probably crashed) but if you have webcams around your home please make sure they are secure!

I thought the housing market was supposed to be slowing down...

But there are at least four houses for sale in Goldsmith Avenue alone at around £1.5 MILLION. Each!Seems lunatic to me. Who can possibly afford that for a semi in Acton?Weren't we told that the bubble has burst, the froth has flattened or whatever the current metaphor is for the gilt coming off the gingerbread?
