HEALING TOMORROW

This is to remind you that the monthly healing centre at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, Chiswick, will be open tomorrow, Monday, 8th December between 11am and 1pm.  Second Monday of the month.The therapy helps any condition, from stress right through to physical illness.There is no charge made for the healing (all the healers are working on a voluntary basis), although a donation would be welcome.  All donations are given to the Vihara.You don't need to make an appointment or book but if you want further information before coming please give me a ring on 0788 189 6449.

What happened on North Acton Playing Field today?

I arrived home around 4:20pm this afternoon and there was 4 ambulances, police cars and an orange helicopter landed on North Acton Playing Fields next to the childrens play area. Does anyone know what happened?Something else to mention, this same helicopter was hovering above our gardens early this morning at 3am for 30 minutes, how annoying.

Playing out

The 2nd Cumberland Road playing out is on Saturday between 3pm and 5 PM. If you might be interested in organising one for your road you are welcome to come along and have a look  The June Playing Out was more successful than we could have dreamed and we began to talk about street parties, Big lunches and all sorts of neighbourly fun. There will be tea and cake and maybe scones. Bring the children and the roller skates.

Everyone Active Acton take donations for homeless shelter

Hi all, The Everyone Active Acton centre are taking dontations such as -blankets-scarves -pillows-jumpers -tinned foodanything to keep warm!!To put together some christmas packs for the local homeless concern. Yvonne Johnson's insensitive remarks. Thoughts?

I found the remarks attributed to Yvonne Johnson in the 28th November issue of The Ealing Gazette more than a bit insensitive. “If you have a second car you would have to have a lot of money, if you can run it you must be able to afford a permit for it. new cycle hub in North Acton

The storage unit opened on Friday November 21st at North Acton Station, allowing a covered area for people to store their bikes.The cycle hub allows commuters to store their bikes away from the elements, making it easier throughout the winter months to maintain the condition of their vehicle. The design of the facility includes secure bike racks, CCTV to provide increased security and new lighting. Secure cycle parking for around 50 bikes is also included. This new cycle hub is an improvement on the facilities that are currently in use and have been provided as part of the council's plans to make Ealing more cycle-friendly. The council is hoping that this will reduce the number of journeys taken by car in the area, helping to reduce traffic and air pollution.The design of the covered cycle hub was created carefully in order to meet with the needs of cyclists. The council has also included landscaping and planters in the shelters to help enhance the look of the area of the station.Transport for London (TFL) supplied Ealing Council with £150,000 worth of funding to deliver the hub. This included money to help with the future Station Square project, which is set to be a community space for the growing neighbourhood.Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “I'm delighted that we've opened our second bike hub in the borough, offering secure, covered cycle parking for cyclists. In the next few months we'll also be adding another Brompton Dock folding bike hire facility. Cycling in the borough has never been better or easier to get into.”Other areas of London will also begin seeing improvements made that help encourage cycling as a mode of transport as the Mayor of London and TFL have committed almost £1 billion to a number of projects. Mortimer & Bennett in Chiswick

I hear it is to close. Does anyone know. A good local source says it's the appalling rents in Turnham Green Terrace.It would be such a shame as it is really great - if extremely expensive.Two suggestions:1) It relocates to Churchfield Road where the rents are not (yet) so high.2) If not, then Park & Bridge take over their 36-month-old Comte at Xmas franchise. You have to order weeks in advance but it is the best cheese ever (apart from Stinking Bishop and Epoisse)

A Good reason Not To Close A&Es

Cancer: Quarter Of Cases Diagnosed In A&EAlmost a quarter of people are not diagnosed with cancer until they are admitted to hospital as an urgent case, research suggests.The National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN) said 24% of people only learn they have the disease in accident and emergency wards.Research from the NCIN also shows the figure is even higher among people over the age of 70 - 31%.Cancer charities say such late diagnosis can have a "disastrous impact" on survival chances.The research, published in the British Journal of Cancer, examined more than 730,000 cancer patients between 2006 and 2008 in England.Sara Hiom, director of information at Cancer Research UK and one of the study authors, said: "Our findings showing the sheer numbers of cancer patients first seen as an emergency are startling."Early diagnosis of cancer, when the most effective treatments are more likely to be options, helps improve a patient's chance of surviving their disease."We don't yet know the reasons that lie behind these stark figures but, although we might expect higher numbers of older patients to have cancer detected as an emergency, we urgently need to understand why there is such a great proportion."Professor Jane Maher, chief medical officer at Macmillan Cancer Support , added: "This route to diagnosis can have a disastrous impact on survival chances."It can be more difficult to spot cancer symptoms in older people who have other health conditions but this does not excuse such a high number of people being diagnosed in this way."All cancer patients should be given the best possible survival chance and we owe it to the older members of our society to ensure that this applies equally to them."
