Enterprise - FAIL

We live opposite the South Acton Recreation Ground. The leaves funnel up our street in the autumn. The pavements are already ankle deep. I wrote to the Council in August to ask them to ensure that Enterprise were prepared and resourced to deal with the autumn leaf-fall, given their pisspoor performance since April. What a joke. The previous contractor, May Gurney, had a 3-man team out at 7am, 3 days a week, around Bollo Bridge Rd, Newton Ave and Brouncker Rd, sweeping, bagging and collecting the bags during Oct/Nov.I informed the Council that they needed to ensure that leaves were not allowed to build up on pavements, as they would be a slip hazard and the Council could be liable for personal injury claims if they did not make sure that Enterprise kept the streets swept to a basic, acceptable standard.Whoops! Owwwww! My back!

New pool

I was just looking at how the new pool is coming on (via the article on the front page when I noticed the following comment:The steel frame is now in place and the concrete pool tanks are ready. Work will start in the next month on the floors and testing the swimming pools for leaks. This will involve filling the main pool with 675,000 litres of water and the learner pool with 23,000 litres of water.Does this mean that the combined 698,000 litres of water are then wasted, and the pool finished and then again filled with water? Given the focus on the planet, am I the only one that finds this a shocking waste? I'm sure there are other ways of testing a pool?Still not really sure I understand what was wrong with the old pool, and lovely historic building that enclosed it - but perhaps I need to move on?Carl

Our NHS is wonderful.

Sick son returnd home with sore throat. No longer registered with local GP, Unwillingly driven to out of hours GP service at Central Mid. Clinic running like clockwork.  Seen by GP in under an hour, Pharangitis diagnosed and penicillin for five days handed to him. Pleasant staff, no charge. Who could ask for more? The NHS is great indeed.

CCA summer party

Thanks to Linda and all involved in organising the delightful CCA summer garden party yesterday. It was great to meet so many old and new friends and to meet the Mayor in all his glory. It is always a lot of bother to organise the food and drink and make everyone so welcome. I thank Linda and all the committee for their efforts.Such a happy and successful party and a wonderful garden. The rain held off too. Also Lorne who has kindly offered to lend me a spare bike to see if I can get my cycling back to general use. So if you see a middle aged woman wobbling along your road at quiet times, do please call out encouragement. Or better still, get cycling along side me.

South Downs walking project.

We will be walking the fourth stretch of the South Downs trail next Saturday Saturday 29th June. Likely to start at Plumpton and head east. Four people already booked to come.Room for another four. Children welcome if they can keep up. Part way walkers also. We had four people on our last walk who came with us as far as Alfreston, had lunch and then dropped off for a look round the village while we pressed on. PM me if interested. We usually start at Shepherds Bush rail station about 8.40. BTW you will need to buy a Downlander ticket on the Southern rail website two days before you need it. It covers the rail journey and any bus or local rail you need. Easily the best value for travel to the South Coast.

Response Re: Overnight Noise (Horn Lane) Crossrail

I have been passed on your complaint about works at Acton from Ealing Council. Firstly please accept my apologies for the disturbance this work has caused you. I have tried contacting you; I hope the below gives your some reassurance but if you would like to discuss further my number is below. Since late last year Network Rail has been undertaking piling work for the new overhead line equipment along the line. For safety reasons, it is necessary to do this work at night when we have possession of the tracks. This work has taken significantly longer than we had hoped due to a number of engineering problems.To ensure we finish this work on time, we have been working some weeknights, as well as Sunday early mornings. We hope to use as few of these week nights as possible. I can confirm no midweek nights will be used for piling for the next few weeks. After this we may need to undertake work on a few more mid-week nights. Our project team and contractors are currently looking at the schedule to see how we can minimise disruption for residents and complete this section of work as soon as possible.Regarding the noise from the works due to the ground conditions at Acton, we have had to use the hammer pile method on many of the piles as the quieter vibration method cannot work in particularly hard ground. We do monitor noise and vibration from these works to ensure they are within levels agreed with Ealing Council and do not cause adverse impact on local properties and our own assets.  You also mentioned notifications in your email; it is our policy to notify residents within 100m of works in order to make them aware of works and any disruption.  For Acton we have extended this notification area due to the number of residential properties and type of work we have been doing but it seems your road was still out of this area. Following your complaint I have extended the area further to ensure you are notified and added your email to they system, so you will also get electronic notifications. Square Piano

Is anyone interested in a late eighteenth century square piano (as played in Jane Austen dramas). It does not work as a piano and would be difficult to restore - but it is old and quite pretty as an antique sideboard. I just do not have room for it any longer, but would feel awful taking it to the tip. It's there for anyone who can take it away and give it a loving home.

Cafe in North Acton playing fields

Hi All..Was playing tennis in the North Acton playing fields last week & had a coffee & panini at Spencer's cafe opposite, I have to say it was really enjoyable. It's newly opened after the building was forced to close,due to subsidence.sure it's basic but it does the job plus there's a kids play area,decent coffee & freshly made panini,cakes & Ice cream - it's also quite a nice place to just sit in the garden & sip a coffee.. spoke to the guy who runs it ,he says business is dire,as no locals seem to visit even the park & will close due to lack of visitors which would be a shame.. I'm really not being paid to say this but 'We as a community need to support these kind of entrepreneurial local businesses' or they close quickly.. I've been back several times with the children too.. can't fault it really. Worth a try.. Peter Jones

SOUTH ACTON BUY-TO-LET SALES

I was interested in your article in relation to buy-to-let sales in the Bollo Bridge Road area in South Acton. As the regneration manager for the area (though writing in a personal capacity) you should note that these sales are NOT flats at Charles Hocking House or other nearby Council blocks but are sales of plots sold off-plan at the new Acton Gardens phase 1 development nearby. Land registry often associate sales to the nearest postcode clusters if a property has not yet been allocated one by the Post Office.Right-to-Buy sales in the majority of the estate have, in fact, been frozen following the service of Demolition Notices in September.

Road works at Shepherds Bush

Starting on 24th June, the westbound exit from Shepherds Bush Green to Uxbridge Road will be closed for 6 weeks. The 207 will be diverted down Goldhawk Road, up Lime Grove to Uxbridge Road. The 607 will be diverted down Goldhawk Road to Askew Road and then on to Uxbridge Road. Eastbound journeys will not be affected. I should imagine there could be some hefty delays.

Dear all For your information:Acton Yard Crossrail Works: Information Bulletin(Friday 14 June – Friday 19 July 2013)We have now moved into the main phase of the works at Acton diveunder with piling works for the diveunder progressing well. As notified in May, we are now working additional weeknights to do overhead line piling works, following considerable engineering delays on this section of the project. We have permission from Ealing Council to work Monday to Thursday nights until the end of November 2013, although we aim to do piling only some of these nights. The way we install piles depends on the ground conditions. We aim to use the quieter vibration method as far as possible, which vibrates the piles into place. However, this machine cannot work in particularly hard ground, and in that case we would have to use the noisier hammer pile method.Below covers the works scheduled to take place over the next month. All works highlighted in red are particularly likely to be noisy.
