Free ballroom dance workshop Sat 12 May

My husband Peter Hothersall will be leading a free workshop, suitable for beginners, on Saturday 12 May.  Peter is a former competition dancer, who appeared with his formation team on the original Come Dancing TV programme.  The workshop is hosted by Oaktree Anglican Fellowship, at 216 High Street (formerly the Age Concern building).It runs from 10.00 - 3.00 and you are welcome to come for all or part of the day.  Walk in, waltz out!  Hope to see you there.

Worst civil servants to be sacked ...............

At LAST, some common sense, something that needed doing 30 years ago.Hopefully the definition of "Civil Servants" will also include incompetent and lazy Local Council staff.Is Cameron developing unfeasibly large gonads? Roadworks at end of Birkbeck Grove/Mansell Road???

Anyone know what's going on at the junction of Birkbeck Grove / The Vale, opposite main Acton Park gates? looks like it'll be whole lot more of a nuisance than it already is getting in and out of our road....we weren't told or consulted. As per.

CPZ consultations in K1 (and K)

The lucky few who currently live in zone K1 are being reconsulted on the times for the CPZ alongside our more numerous neighbours in Zone K.K1 is currently on one hour morning and another in the afternoon and this has worked really well for us I think. We keep out the commutersWe pay lower feesIt's much easier and cheaper for visitors/builders/tradesman to park outside.I hope residents in Goldsmith Avenue, Baldwyn Gardens, Maldon Road and Cumberland Park will vote to keep things as they are. No CPZ isn't an option when we are surrounded by them and all-day seems over the top.The two hur CPZ has worked really well for us and i also hope Zone K residents will vote to move from all-day to the two option - because of the obvious benefits.

Gem Scone Cast Iron Pan

I am itching to get my hands on one of these. My grandmothers taught me their scone recipes using such a pan and I would like to keep the traditional recipe and their instructions, rather than defaulting to other scone shaping methods! Ebay and Amazon don't have any listed. I suspect the only place I might find one of these in the second hand or charity stores but if anyone has a suggestions as to where else I could look for such a pan this would be greatly appreciated!

Woody Grill coming to Acton

The doomed restaurant site on the corner of the High Street - home to assorted all-you-can-eats over the years - is about to become a Woody Grill apparently.This may be good news. It's a smallish chain (no website) and there are Woody Grills in Shepherd's Bush and Kilburn and they seem to do OK serving Turkish food - mostly grills and kebabs I think.Maybe they can turn that corner around.

London elections - what's happened to Labour in Acton?

I've been very disappointed so far that in what looked like being a very close election for London Mayor, and still could be, I've seen no sign of any Labour campaign here in Acton. No one knocking on the door, no posters in windows, not even a single leaflet through the door. OK, I've not had anyone call from the Tories or seen any posters either but I have had several leaflets and a 'personal' letter from Boris Johnson and his sidekick R Barnes and Acton is not a strong Tory area. Maybe they're demoralised as Ken has fallen a few points behind in the polls but they won't turn things around without a bit of effort in places like Acton with a lot of swing voters up for grabs. Come on, get your fingers out guys or I may have to vote for the Greens!

GEMMA’S  JINGLES   07980592352I had a wonderful party entertainer for my son’s 2nd Birthday Party.   My son’s pals were of mixed sexes with ages ranging from 2 – 10 as it was Wednesday afternoon so siblings were invited.   Gemma was fantastic!   She captured everyone’s attention (including the mothers) with her stunning voice during her introduction - she says hello to everyone and gets to know each child’s name.   Then there was a solid 45 minutes of fun for the kids – with Ellis Elephant the kids got to roar with their make believe trunks and swish their long imaginary tails.  In The Big Ship Sails there was loads of fun with balls and boats going high in the air – the kids loved it!  There were plenty of classic songs like Row Row Row The Boat  (with a twist) and in The Can Can the kids got to kick high in the air after which Gemma played a little number with the trumpet – which I must say was pretty impressive.  There was The Train song where the children made tooting sounds and followed behind Gemma - all joined in smiling and tooting.  Horsey Horsey saw the partygoers participate with an instrument and they waved a scarves with the song Peter Rabbit.  Gemma calmed the entertainment down to end with sleeping bunnies.  Just magical!To book for your child’s party call her on 07980592352 or email gemsjingles@gmail.com

Who is toppling gateposts?

I have seen several well built brick gate posts (not driveway posts) knocked over into front gardens in Perryn Road over the last two years.  Now there is one knocked into the front garden in Birkbeck Road.  It is a mystery!  Any ideas?

Dressmaker and pattern shop

I need a recommendation for a really good dressmaker who can either make a dress without a pattern (just from my rough design) or someone to recommend a local pattern shop where I can try and hunt down a design closest to what I want. I know John Lewis at Westfield have a haberdashery but I wanted to know if there was something more local.I have searched for recommended dressmakers on here,have e-mailed them all and not had a response for prices. Any help gratefully received!

Barbar Lebanese Restaurant

Has anyone eaten here? It was mentioned in Sainsbury's magazine (June edition) and it has also had many other good reviews. Only thing is - it's in NW10 - looks like Park Royal on the map.
