Peter William Sutcliffe. wants to draw State Pension?

Peter William Sutcliffe (born 2 June 1946) is a British serial killer who was dubbed "The Yorkshire Ripper". In 1981 Sutcliffe was convicted of murdering 13 women and attacking seven others. He is currently serving 20 sentences of life imprisonment in Broadmoor Hospital. After his conviction, Sutcliffe began using his mother's maiden name and became known as Peter William Coonan. The High Court dismissed an appeal in 2010, confirming that he would serve a whole life tariff and would never be released from imprisonment.Should a convicted murderer be entitled to draw State Pension while serving a whole life sentence.  He claims that he paid his taxes before being imprisoned and, therefore is entitled to draw his pension.  Is this attention seeking by a nutter?  Will we have another insane judgement from the European Court of Human Rights?  In my opinion he should have been hanged and, is not entitled to any benefits whatsoever.

CCA Notice Board Repairs

Some kind person was so miffed at the CCA Winetasting cancellation that that they vandalisd the small notice board at the rear of the Oaks Centre.The damage amounts to the plastic front having been smashed.Any ideas where we might get it replaced locally?

NHS torture

This morning I arrived at a day surgery unit for hand trauma surgery.  Time of arrival 0700 for 0730 along with many others.  My operation did not take place until 1230. (my hand is still numb.)  I was not allowed to leave until I had seen physio some two hours later, upon which they insisted that I did finger exercises.  How they expected me to move my finger while heavily bandaged and numb baffles me.  Is the NHS exploiting torture on post-op patients or is it sadism?

Mike Abbott's mysterious object in East Acton Lane

I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before, but I thought it might be a boundary post, marking a parish or municipal boundary. I dug out a reproduction O.S. map (East Acton and Wormholt, 1913) and saw that there was B.P. marked at that very spot, which stands for boundary post. (The abandoned fish-and-chip shop which the post is right next to was at that time the Bull's Head pub.)Sure enough, the boundary that runs north-south there is marked "Parliamentary and Metropolitan Borough Boundary" and "Union and Urban District Boundary". One hell of a boundary! And worthy of a nice marker post. I'd like to go and see it and see if the writing can be deciphered .

No Central line service through Acton this weekend 10/11 March

Acton property article

Why is the old article from the Evening Standard being puffed again on the front page? People read and commented on its 'imaginative' statements such as the plans for an 'Olympic' swimming pool and availablity of 'boutiques' then - why repeat it?!Acton was 'coming up' when I moved in over 30 years ago: it's never quite made it, but must be OK 'cos I'm still here...   :-)

Lights on pedestrian bridge north of Acton Central

Whose responsibility is the upkeep of the lights on the pedestrian bridge over the North London Line just north of Acton Central ?They're all out including one that looks more likely to be council than Network Rail maintained.  Have any Acton W3 regulars gone through the process of getting them fixed before ?Out for my "OMG middle age is catching up on me" run this evening, my route took me over the bridge, and even being the fine specimen I am, it was a little spooky.  I expect that's one short cut some of us won't be taking by night until it's fixed.HenryPS - Looking for training buddies for support and encouragement ...

Toby's been tweeting insanely for the last couple of hours.  He ought to turn his blackberry off.  So far he's commented on a female MP's breasts, then commented that if people like him (i.e. Sun journalists) aren't meant to notice, women should "dress more modestly".  Now he says Steve Hilton is a woman because "his 'masculinity' is fake".   It's hilarious, but I wish he'd stop as I feel embarrassed for him. . . . .

Lloyds Chemist in Churchfield Road is closing

Not sure when but likely to be within the next six months...relocating to the High Street apparently because the one in Crown Street can't cope - well, that's true enough which is why I go to the one in Churchfield Road.It would be great if another chemist moved in there, but I bet it doesn't happen.
