A40 Green Corridor

At the last Goldsmiths Residents Association meeting, we were told by our representative on the East Acton Forum that when the question of the A40 Green Corridor was discussed at that forum, he specifically asked the three councillors if they would back the Resident's Association view: that the width of the green corridor should be  25 metres and we should settle for nothing less.However all three councillors refused to confirm that they would support this view -  which the previous set of councillors had agreed to.

A new Butcher's. And what a gem of a find !!

I always give credit where it's due and toodling down Pitshanger lane during the week, I came across a newly opened butcher's.Bought some wonderful sausages and other bits and pieces including some liver that was absolutely delicious.Went back today for a leg of lamb, more sausages, bacon, own brans conserves etc.Speaking to the owner, he has only been open for 6 weeks and is a former 'Acton' resident........Lovely to see a truly traditional butcher. Is the NHS in dire straights, giving poor service?

Today I had an X-Ray on an infected finger, with a foreign body (metal) in it.  I was referred to A&E to have the object removed.  After four hours waiting and, then pressing to be seen I was greeted with rudeness, lack of information and stupidity from the triage nurse.  After stating that I wanted to make an official complaint, she asked a doctor to see me, who then said that he could not see anything wrong, until, I pointed out the offending object.  Oh it's to deep for us to deal with, you will have to go to a specialist plastics (hand) at the Royal Free....A joke or what?It should have been a simple job to remove the object.  Are they just wasting money or justifying outrageous consultant appointments?Why is it that there is not a hand plastics unit nearer than the Royal Free or the Kensington and Chelsea?  Of course it could be age related, your over 40, go away.  The hospital was not Hammersmith, but that one near Asda.Looks like I will have to make an appointment with the vet!

New Improvement Scheme Acton Centre

I would be most interested in peoples' views on this new proposed "improvement" scheme.It looks as if it only has traffic in mind. If it is to reduce congestion (a good thing)it will speed up traffic (a bad thing)and thus make it harder to cross roads.The moving of bus stops is dubious too. Once you have decyphered the plan do let me know what you think.I'm sure there'll be plenty of discussion.

Accident and Emergency services in Acton part-closure

The Central Middlesex Hospital has announced that it is closing its overnight A and E service.Full reporthttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-15730056This means that anyone falling off their bike in Acton after 7pm will have to travel to Northwick Park (..er ...... thats in Harrow ...)for assistance.  Other alternatives might be the Chelsea and Westminster or St Mary's in PaddingtonThe night-time closure comes amid discussion about whether to close A and E services at Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex permanently and consolidate all services at Northwick Park.This would mean that a large swathe of densely populated West London would lose a local A and E service.Am I the only one wondering whether this is a good idea?

2 x Gerbils needing a new home

Hi,My young neighbour has had to move to a rented house where he is unable to keep his 2 pet gerbils he was given for his last birthday in Septmeber.They are both female and come with a gerbilarium, wheel, food and some other bits and pieces. If anyone is interested in adopting them please PM me they are free and we need to re home them quickly as they are living with me and my dogs ado not like them, so I'm hoping for a speedy adoption.Hope to hear from you soon

Trooping the Colour

Excellent flypast over Acton today - I counted 6 groups of planes visible from the back garden. The Red Arrows were, sadly, only audible as I presume they were heading somewhere other than Northolt.

zumbatomic kids party recommendation

I know that everyone is always on the lookout for a great innovative idea for a kids party so I thought I'd post this recommendation after my daughters 9th birthday party today. Zumba is all the rage at the moment and zumbatomic is the kids version. We had the most amazing instructor called Gemma who kept 20 girls captivated for 2 hours. It was so much fun, and in todays crazy world of party prices, fantastic value. No connections to Gemma (07530974547), just a really impreesed customer.

Top Cat

I really hope that the kind couple that knocked on our door this evening with the sad news that our cat had been killed by a car watch this forum.Had it not been for their kindness we would not have known what had happened and would have been searching in vain.They had obviously spent some time, not only covering the body but also going door to door, looking for the owner, upset as I was at the time I did not take the trouble to ask for contact details but if you see this please accept my thanks.Kind regards.Ruairi

Bird of Prey in Acton?

My daughter, aged 9, swears she saw an unusual bird this morning. She said she thought it was an Eagle and after she gave a detailed description we looked up Eagles in a book we have. Her description very clearly matched one for the White-tailed Eagle. Although she is not prone to being over imaginative (!) she may of course have mistook it for something else. Did anyone else spot this bird? A typical one has a 6-8 foot wingspan so it would have been unmissable! It would have been around 8 am and we live in Brougham Rd, just off Horn Lane near the BP Petrol Station. perhaps we shoudl report it's sighting if she turns out to have been right!

No Piccadilly line Acton Town - Heathrow weekend 5/6 November

This weekend 5/6 November there is no service between Acton Town and Heathrow (all terminals) owing to station improvement work at Heathrow and maintenance work on points and crossings at Northfields depot.Bus replacement for local journeys: service A: Acton Town – Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3. Service B: Acton Town –Heathrow Terminal 4 –Heathrow Terminal 5Service C: Ealing Common –Ealing Broadway (for Central line) –South Ealing – Northfields –Boston Manor – Osterley –Hounslow East – Hounslow Central –Hounslow West – Hatton Cross –Heathrow Terminal 1,2,3If you wish to to connect with bus service C please take the E3 to Northfields/South Ealing or 207, 427, 627 to Ealing Broadway.Additionally there is no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge to allow a regular Piccadilly line service through central London. Please use the Metropolitan line instead.

Olga Krasnosielska sent down for defrauding the train companies

Quite simply this is good news. I would prefer that she did some type of community service to improve things whether it be hard graft to improve Acton. Not sure if someone in prison for 10 weeks will either go straight or learn more techniques to avoid getting caught.
