Gas smell in Goldsmith Road

I know the gas board (are they still called that or is it Transco), have been digging up the road of late trying to fix a leak, however I can still smell gas strongly when I walk down Goldsmith Road (on the Evens side) around numbers 18 down to about 10.I'm happy to report it, although it's been going on for ages now and clearly the gas people are aware.I have visions of a discarded cigarette followed by a very loud banging!Carl

Live Christmas Trees- suggestions

Looking for suggestions as to locations to purchase a tree next weekend; we are looking for one in a pot so that we can plant and keep for next year! I know the hardware stores stock these but would prefer to support a charity if there are any locally selling these?? Sarah

Acton pool and priory community groups

The council is still failing to help displaced community groups find 'fit for use' alternative accomodation once the pool and priory community group close down. Many may have to leave Acton which will be a massive blow to our community and our youth. The council are sticking to the line that the community space, ie 3 rooms, in the new development will accommodate the 32 plus groups! Fly tipping in East Acton

Our little estate just off Ashfield Road is blighted by fly tipping, on Saturday we had people of european gypsie origin,going through our commercial waste bins so I asked them to leave and said it was private propery, yesterday I had a man in a white van disposing of his building rubble in our bins, I chased him off, today in the space of 15 minutes someone had dumped a big mattress. In the past 3 months we have had stuff(sofas, beds, cookers, fridges etc)either on the estate or just outside it, has anyone else experienced this??

Grrr. Parking ticket

At the top of Green Lane in Hanwell there is a school. There is an old dropped kerb which was originally (forty years ago i'm told) for vehicular access into the school. It hasn't been in use for 40 years and now leads to a brick wall and railings. Just a little further down is a much larger dropped kerb that is in operation. I don't mind paying for a parking ticket if i have made a mistake or parked inconsiderately. But this feels very unreasonable. The ticket by the way was hidden - not on the windscreen but on the passenger side affixed to the bonnet and not visible to  me when i got into the car. It was only a kind passer-by that told me about it and about how the dropped kerb hadn't been in use for forty years. The council have rejected my informal appeal and i now have to decide whether to go through the full appeals process. They have sent two photos - one of my car showing the registration but it isn't possible to tell from that there is a dropped kerb - no markings and the drop is so negligble that it can't be made out; the other photo is of my tax disc and resident's parking disc -not sure why that is relevant. I wasn't blocking any vehicle from accessing anything and i don't believe i was impeding any pedestrian or wheel-chair or pram user as there is are two (signed) dropped kerbs either side and within a couple of metres of this one.Anyone have any advice?

There is a Blue Plaque in Hanger Hill, which I think is Acton despite its W5 post code? Also of course Acton Green (which has a plaque) used to be in Acton until the railway was built.

Basement flooding Thames Water- Breathing in mould spores- Please help

I live just off Churchfield Road, near Acton Central station. Over the past 4 years I have had problems with water coming into my basement. At first it was sporadic but even when we’ve had record dry spells, the basement still has water coming in. I have been to and froing with Thames Water for 4 years now. At first they had no recollection of their engineer testing the water positive for chlorine. Then when I provided proof they changed their mind. They say they have tried to find the leak to no avail. But over the past 4 years there have been MAJOR water works in the area; in Acton Park and in Birkbeck Road to name a few. I questioned one of the engineers on Birkbeck Road as to what was going on underground, he said they have found pipes going to nowhere, pipes coming from nowhere, and pipes they didn’t know existed (I have it recorded, along with any interaction I have with Thames as after that first incident, I no longer trust them).I tried writing to my local MP (who was Andy Slaughter at the time. He fobbed me off onto his lackeys and it went nowhere). I have had long conversations with the Water Council and the Environment agency and have been told that either directly or indirectly, Thames water are responsible for this problem, but I cant get anything from Thames apart from that they’ve tried to find the leak and it isn’t their problem. I am now at the end of my tether; I am pumping the basement every few days now, the house smells of damp, and all of my clothes, shoes, furniture- you name it- is covered in mould. And I live and sleep in this apartment, goodness knows what it is doing to my insides.To get a specialist in will cost me a lot of money which I don’t have. Can anyone suggest what I might do, or does anyone have any information about anything (leaks in the area, flooding, water tables, ect) that might help me?Thanking you in advance. Acton Hill Church Christmas Fayre...Saturday 26 November

Poor Reception in W3 ?

Has anyone else experienced very poor mobile phone reception in Acton with Virgin Meia?I just changed my provider from Orange to Virgin Media but find that I am mostly getting the message 'Emergency calls only' which means Ihave to go into the garden to make a call!The reception was so bad when trying to speak to someone at Virgin Media I couldn't even hear them properly. I have written to Virgin Media but would be interested to know whether any other people on this service have experienced problems.Thanks a lot.

Lost Cat?

Hello.  Has anyone lost what we think is a Burmese cat, quite large, beautiful light brown and chocolate coloured with a predominantly blackish face?  We found such a cat in the grounds of St Dunstan's Church, Friars Place Lane, W3 yesterday.Please bear in mind it may not be Burmese.......I'm not too up on the differing types of cat, unfortunately.  It's a good breed, that's for sure.If so, can the owners get in touch with me through this site please?

Reg flooded basement

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice.Regarding groundwater, the environment agency has told me “if Chlorine has been found, as tested by Thames Water, I would suggest that the most likely cause is a damaged water main. The flooding is not due to true groundwater flooding, as the chalk aquifer in this area is situated underneath a substantial depth of clay (50m) which will prevent water from rising up. The depth to water in the chalk aquifer is approximately 40-45m (as it is under slight pressure it is higher than the top of the chalk).”. And if it was an underground river, why now?There have been copious leaks in the area, one such leak uphill from me less than 20 metres, which had been going on for years, and one downhill less than 10 houses away which I called to report on 3 separate occasions. Each time it was “fixed”. As was yet another leak slightly uphill where Thames ended up busting the pipe and having to come back, dig up the road again, and fix it again. They also damaged a house with their digging. I have pictures, videos and recordings of the numerous works which have been undertaken and my conversations with Thames Water. I have absolutely no faith in them. I managed to get hold of a FOI request made by someone else with the same problem which supposedly detailed all the public leaks in the area but several were omitted (including the ones that I had called in).Several people have emailed me with suggestions of who to talk to, thank you for those and I will be following them up. Any more suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.
