Too many car crashes

Last night, I believe there was a fatality outside Tesco Express when a car hit a motorbike. Tonight I have driven down Twyfird Ave. there are temporary traffic lights due to road works and there were lots of Police cars and ambulances with flashing lights. When I got closer I saw that a car had crashed into the traffic lights. I don't know the circumstances but everyone seems to be in a rush these days. Please take care.

Friars Green CPZ

Despite the majority of messages on the forum, I would like to say that for some of us the introduction of the CPZ on the west side of Horn Lane will be a very sad day.   One of the last free areas of Acton will be lost forever and we will all end up paying ever-increasing amounts to the council to park in the roads will live in.   For all that commuters are vilified - they are people earning a living.   My road was empty most of the day and if people wanted to take my place whilst I was at work, that was fine with me.   I have parking provided at my workplace, but if I had to pay for parking it would cost me 20p for every 6 minutes.  No longer can I say to friends and family, come and visit, you can park outside no problem . . . what a sad, sad, day. Ealing council must be rubbing their hands together at the income it will bring them, no wonder Bassam is pleased.

Red Kite spotted in Acton

A Red Kite has just swooped into my garden and taken a wood pigeon - left loads of feathers behind.  I don't know much about birds - do we have red kites living in the area?

The Rocket

We couldn't get a table at our local, The Princess Victoria (it was heaving and very noisy!) so we toodled along to the Rocket for lunch.  This was our second time eating there and once again, the food was delicious, the service was prompt and it was just a lovely place to have a late Sunday lunch!We will definitely be going back more often!

North Acton "Square" and Garage CPO Should Be Spent Elsewhere in Acton

On Tuesday the Labour Cabinet agreed the need to spend millions of pounds of public money on creating a "public square" in Acton by North Acton tube station.  To create this "square" the council will be consolidating a signficant sum of section 106 money providede for the benefit of Acton residents and largely dedicated towards open space commitments.If the plans presented are be believed the "square" will amount to little more than a Paternoster-style windswept plaza - despite the cafe society style impression provided by the regeneration team at the meeting.The millions of council capital and millions of section 106 money generated by development in Acton should be spent in Acton - but to put local taxpayers money into a compulsory purchase of the Esso garage on the site could in the current funding climate be regarded as another project (like the Southall carpark) for which the money could be put to far better uses.For example the total capital budget for the parks service is less than £1m.  The money to buy an Esso garage could bring every park in Acton upto the standards of the best as could the accumulated s106 money.  Alternatively the millions indicated could be used to generate some genuine (and green) open space for the residents of Acton.This is a council spending millions on a "regeneration" that could be funded by developers.The money allocated to this scheme should be used not to fund the vanities of the regeneration team but put to uses that improve the environment of the people of Acton today. Acton main line information board

Well the new info boards are at last working. Unfortunately the one at the top of the stairs by the ticket office is facing the sun so you can't read it.  It just looks blank when the sun is out.

Without any problems ?Today I called LBE business rates department informing them that we shall be vacating our premises at the end of the month, giving them details of the new owners etc etc and could they please send an amended bill for us to pay before the end of October.Of course. after giving out all the info, we were told that this has to be done in writing.Fair enough. So I have done done the following:1: Emailed the revenue department.2: Faxed a letter to them3: Sent a hard copy of the letter..Waddya all think ??

Where to go for indian groceries?

I've lived in Kingsbury and Harrow before and have been able to shop at indian grocery stores there...Just wondering if there are any indian grocery shops nearby Acton/Ealing? I'd prefer not to go all the way to Southall.Thanks!

Anyone want a few hours work data entering a petition

Not sure quite how much work - but a couple of hours or more now and more in a week or two - the paper version of the Save Gaby's Deli petition needs to be input into the computer version. And an awful lot of people seem to have signed up. (which is great - don't get me wrong - but I don't have time to do it)Would love a volunteer but can quite see I may have to pay a student...or someone else with a couple of hours to spare.

wanted surveryeor or architect who will draw me a kitchen

Can anyone recommend a surveyor or architect who will draw up a plan for new kitchen and downstairs loo? The plan will have to include re routing of gas and electricity as well as an arch between kitchen anddining room. Thanks in advance

Spam from Neighbournet

I have just received a spam message from their Putney site claiming that I had registered for this site. This is a bit difficult as I neither know about it nor have any interest to register.There is no unsubscribe link and says that you can login and deregister. How when I am not registered? I assume that they emailed anyone listed for other sites such as this one.Has anyone else received this spam or maybe blocked by spam filters or sitting in Junk Mail folder?

Buy to let investment, good or bad for the area?

I recently read a very good article about the pro’s and con’s of buy to let investment and what impact it has on the local community. One school of thought was it erodes communities with the constant movement of people, on the other hand there was the argument that it revitalises areas and helps local businesses thrive with new custom.I’m thinking of making my first purchase, is this a good move in Acton??
