No lights, poss no fire escapes? Advice needed
Hi, i live in a house which has been converted into seven studio flats-or at least mine is a studio anyway.There is no lighting whatsoever on the landing or stairs, after about 7 or 8 the stairs are pitch black, and the stairs are, how do i describe this, uneven? I've regularly almost tripped on a certain few stairs. It is so dark, it's ridiculous. There are two light fittings, i was going to change the bulb but i can't see any light switches? So if i did change the bulb then there'd be no point? Also the window on the first floor landing is constantly open/unlocked and can simply be pulled open from the outside, it's quite dangerous. The window on the second floor is locked and cannot be opened, should this be used as a fire escape?I only have one, quite small window in my studio.I have contacted the Estate Agent and have not received a reply, all requests must go through them.Where do i stand? Should there be adequate fire escapes or will the landlord argue the window in my studio is sufficient? what about the lighting? is this the tenants responsibility?
