Prisoners to get landline telephones in cells.
I have just heard that a pilot scheme is to go on trial by giving prisoners phones in their cells, in an effort to stamp out illegal mobile phones. Is this pampering, or making the life of prison officers easier. The most likely place to trial this, is at HMP Isis young offenders institution in south London. What next: prisoners demanding to be let out, so that they can get back in?If this scheme goes ahead, will the process be monitored, will it create more criminal activity behind bars, aid escapes, run businesses and/or place orders for drugs? Is this rewarding bad behaviour?
