I would like to invite you to a new coffee and cake shop "THE APPLE TREE" at the Acton Town Station.The Apple Tree is a small and friendly coffee shop just outside Acton Town Station (London) specialising in delicious home made cakes and pastries. We look forward to welcoming you to experience the most delicious  home-made cakes, pastries and desserts. We also sell lovely Fairtrade certified coffee and refreshing frozen & fresh fruit smoothies. Every day we make fresh sandwiches, using baguettes we bake ourselves in the shop.We trust our products so much, we give away free samples every day, because we know that once you try our cakes, smoothies, coffee and frappes, you will come back for more!We are based in the same building from the Acton Town station. Steam fair

The Carter Steam fair is in Ravenscourt gardens from 10 to 7 today.Lots of fun rides, many suitable for small children.

bread making machine wanted

I made the mistake of telling my elderly (103) blind friend that I had made bread.. Now she wants to make her own... ( No it is not the same as me making it for her)! she is very determined.. but I don't think she is up to kneading!However I do know her well and I am reluctant to go and buy her a bread making machine as I am not sure if this is the best idea?  (She bought a liquidizer from a catalogue and cannot use it on her own) Does anyone have one in the cupboard under the stairs they don't want?So we can experiment and see if this is a good idea... alternatively can any one recommend a brand of machine that is easy to use,  i.e. not too many dials!  and that is relatively inexpensive...thanks

Lost resident's parking permit

My resident's permit is due to expire this week and I renewed online and received the new one the other day which inadvertently got posted together with some letters today. It's still attached to the letter with my name and address on so there's a chance I might get it back in the post. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience in contacting ealing council for a replacement for a lost permit. I can't find anything on the website. Thanks..

Free guided nature walk tomorrow at Gunnersbury Triangle

Ever wondered  why oaks have apples or leaves have lumps?  All this and more will be explained tomorrow at Gunnersbury Triangle Nature Reerve. Guided by an expert from Kew there will be a leisurely stroll around the Reerve looking for and identifying the various galls encountered. Bring along any from your garden that you'd like identified.Sunday, 2 - 4 pm, Gunnersbury Triangle, Bollo Lane, almost opposite Chiswick Park Station.

Poets Corner Garden Party is this Sunday 2 -5

It's always a lovely event with dog show (hysterical), tug of war, great raffle hugely supported by local businesses, teas made in the community - I have seen an amazing picture of the cupcakes on offer. Plus books and things for sale.  It's in the Poets Corner garden and surrounding roads...I think money raised actually supports the garden itself - which is a tiny, joyous oasis itself.

NHS march - 6 September

For info:'Many of you will be aware of the 999 ‘Call for the NHS’ March that has been working its way down the country.  It started in Jarrow and will arrive at Parliament on the 6 September.  It was started by a group of working mums committed to stopping the privatisation of the NHS and will be following the route of the original Jarrow Crusade.  The final leg of the march will start from Red Lion Square Holborn on 6 September, with campaigners gathering from 1.45pm with a 2.30pm march off to Westminster. STOLEN SUITCASE

Dear AllSadly my neighbour's case was stolen at approx. 7.30pm this evening from her path on St Elmo Road.  She was waiting for a lift to the airport.It's a large(ish) case with wheels and has a bright green strap around it to keep it secure.  I have checked lots of front gardens but there's nothing.Please would you keep an eye out for it and PM me if you find it.Understandably, she's very upset.Huge thanksGeorgie

FARADAY HIGH SCHOOL

I am doing research on Faraday High School, which used to be in Bromyard Avenue, East Acton, on the site of what is now the King Fahad Academy.  I hope to write a book about the school once this research is complete.  Forum members may remember that Faraday High was the subject of a very controversial PANORAMA documentary in 1977, which as a 17-year-old back then, I recall seeing (believe you me, Faraday was no worse than the grammar school in Amersham, Bucks, that I was then attending).  Can anyone who knows anything about Faraday High from the '70s please get in touch with me on david.lawes2@hotmail.com.

Missing black and white cat

Closing Down Sale, Sports Direct. The Oaks ! !

It was previously a Nisa supermarket, then closed for many  months before opening as Sports Direct. So what's next? Suggested  candidates:- Cinema, Bingo Hall, Poundland, Oaks Regeneration Conference Centre. Art Gallery, Waitrose, Post Office, Tesco, Primark, . . . . . .

EU outlaw powerful vacuum cleaners.

From September 1, companies will be unable to manufacture or import any vacuums with motors above 1,600 watts under rules designed to boost energy efficiency and tackle climate change.My vacuum is 2000 watts, so if I need a new motor, I guess I will be compelled to buy an inferior type or a less powerful appliance.  Who gives these faceless bureaucrats the right to decide the power of my/others vacuum cleaners?A less powerful cleaner takes longer to do the job, so therefore uses more energy.  Could this be a ploy to boost the profits of the energy companies in foreign hands?Should we get out of the EU?  Discuss.
