Microsoft updates this week

Microsoft have scheduled a multipart software update from April 8, only part of which will be applied to XP or earlier systems, and it is rumoured will effectively kill them. Should I start burning a stack of Knoppix DVD's and CD's to rescue the files?

Sky service

My broadband died on me on Thursday morning. The router box which normally flashes away like something from the Enterprise's control panels just gave the occasional blip. I called Sky (nice touch - it's free) and got through immediately. They started checking the line and connections calling me back on my mobile. After about 20 mins it was decided that my old modem had passed away in the night and that I would need a new one. Great. Just one snag. Delivery was 3-5 working days! No internet for a week! Next day at 2pm there was a knock at the door. Royal Mail with a package. I thought it may be something from EBay but no - it was the new router from Sky. Very easy to set up and within 10mins I was back online.So many thanks Sky. That is great service. I just wish more companies would be as efficient.

after school childcare wanted

HelloWe live in Acton, Poet's Corner, and are looking for someone to do school pick up and after school care for us on Wednesdays and Thursdays, (approx 3.45pm - 6.30pm).  We have two boys aged 3 and 5 yrs.  Whole day child care during school holidays may be possible too, but not essential.  We would like someone who: has child care experience, is fun, loving, responsible, energetic.....etc!  If you are such a person, or know someone who is, or have a nanny who is looking for extra hours, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Kew Village Market - Sunday 6th April

It’s such a sociable way to do your shopping – that’s what we’re often told. Kew Village Market is a great place to bump into friends and neighbours and perhaps hang out for a bite of lunch. There’s a fantastic choice of delicious street food, from Noggin Farm’s sausage or bacon butties to Carolyn Dawson’s super spread of salads and slices; and from galettes both savoury and sweet from La Crêpe de Delices to subtly spiced Eritrean and Ethiopian vegetarian specialities from new favourite Abycina.And while you’re munching, what better entertainment than the U-Kew-Lele Orchestra? We Factory Quarter residents were intrigued to receive notice that there will be a CAR CHASE down Warple Way tomorrow as part of filming for the US drama '24'. Rumour has it that Stephen Fry will play the PM but I think it's unlikely he'll make it to Acton. I'll be looking out for Jack Bauer behind the wheel...

Free Art workshops for kids

Hellooo! I forgot to post this last week! The free art workshops for kids are back and we're in The Kings Head next to Morrisons tomorrow. Come and have a look! From 2-6 :)There is a lot of art work by numerous artists (myself included) to look at for inspiration or whilst having a drink!! Labour's Cllr Walker is having a laugh

Cllr Walker’s piece on the front page merely takes credit for projects started off by the 2006-2010 Conservative administration, or being paid for by another part of government.  Labour’s capital programme has been dominated by schools spending, 2/3rds of which comes from central government.  We had the same issue when we ran the council.  The decision to expand schools with good quality buildings rather than Portakabins was taken by the Conservatives.  We are pleased that Labour has carried on with this programme where we left off but it is pretty tacky to take credit for the whole thing.  Cllr Walker is particularly cheeky to take credit for the Acton High School 6th Form which was kicked off on 2nd December 2008 by a Tory cabinet I was sitting on.  Cllr Walker mentions “improving the traffic flow”.  It was Boris Johnson who led on this in his 2008 election campaign and it was current Conservative leader David Millican who pushed through the first mini roundabout by Acton Town Tube station.  The jury is still out on the scheme outside the Police station but the mini roundabouts springing up around Acton and the Borough have worked very well and they weren’t Cllr Walker’s idea.  Again it was the 2006-2010 Conservative administration that kicked of the building of new council houses and got the whole estates regeneration programme back on track after it was left floundering.  The current Acton Gardens phase of work was kicked off by the Conservatives.  Cllr Walker doesn’t mention the oak tree mural on Beechworth House and the ACTON lights on The Vale railway bridge – I guess because that was another of Boris Johnson’s programmes.  On the other hand it was the Labour councillors on the planning committee, including East Acton’s Cllr Kate Crawford, who voted en bloc to push through the Oaks scheme in spite of the well argued planning points raised by the Conservative councillors.  Cllr Crawford also managed to vote for the Hanson cement plant.  It is a Labour council that is skimping on Acton’s roads and pavements and leaving them looking broken and dirty.  Labour’s scope for capital spending was limited but it chose not to spend on Acton’s roads and pavements and instead spent money on an under-used car park in Southall, tarting up the Ealing Town Hall and the roads and pavements around it to create an elegant municipal quarter and new council offices in Greenford and Southall.  Cllr Walker is having a laugh.

BT are a pain in the gluteus maximus.

Just tried logging on to my BT account, only to receive this message:You can not access your account because your password has expired.Please contact your Security.Administrator or Help desk.I only changed my password a month ago, so how can it be expired?Any suggestions for a more reliable provider, who are not a pain in the bum.

How can Horn Lane Pollution be Red/Black 8, when Hanger Lane is only Green 3??!!! :-

No doubt Ealing Borough Council Environment Department, our Ward Councillors and The Environment Agency are on the case. Incident on Horn Lane

Footpath of Horn Lane is currently sealed off by police tape between the Pharmacy and Jay Vee News (corner of Grafton Road). Not sure of the full details of what has happened as I chose to ask someone in one of the shops rather than the policeman who was taking notes, all I could get from this person was 'attack, attack'.

Anyone else hear that bloody dog?

Does anyone else live in the Maldon Road/Cumberland Park block hear that dog, barking, barking, barking in the early hours of this morning?  It's pretty consistent and very, very annoying.  We hear it a lot, usually between midnight and 3am, and it's obviously kept outside.  This morning it woke me up at about 3am and I didn't get back to sleep. Does anyone know whose it is, or if anything can be done?

Arthur Razor  business grows

Just had a mail from Arthur Razor to say he is expanding and now opened up his grooming service offering massage facials waxing etx . Great to see an Acton business  prosper ( and I don't work or  have any association with Arthur Razor ) .Sign of a more prosperous Acton . Together with the wine shop there is clearly business here to support the high end demographic business Not sure I have enough hair to support an Arthur Razor cut but will try one of the other new services

E3 bus route during Gunnersbury Lane closure

It's my understanding that Gunnersbury Lane will be closed next week.  But I've been having trouble finding the diverted E3 bus route during this time.  Been to Tfl website and googled for it.  Anyone have any luck finding this info?
