Windmill Pub licensing application

On behalf of the the Churchfield Community Association I monitor licence applications and make representations to the Council's Licensing Panel where we have concerns. There is a current licence application from the Windmill Pub to extend its hours so that it would be open from 8am until 1.30am Monday to Sunday (selling alcohol 10am to 1.30am). The pub has also applied in the licence for music, dancing and discos from 8pm to 1.30am. I would be interested to hear the views of local residents, especially any who live near the pub, e.g. in Grove Road. Please reply by 6 November with any comments.

Mortimer, our black cat.

Mortimer ran away when the builders were renovating our kitchen. He has turned up several times, but is clearly puzzled by the change in layout and leaves again. The last time was last night at 2am. We have noticed that he is looking sleek and well fed, so someone is looking after him and we think he cannot be far away. We are in Cumberland Road with a back  gate into Nemoure Road, so if you live nearby have you seen him? He is a handsome cat all black except for a few white hairs on his chest. Black whiskers and a goggle eyed expression. Not very bright but very cuddly. We miss him. Any sightings, let me know.

Street cleaning - a big fat failure again

Same old, same old.  Getting really tired of emailing the council and the guy in charge of the street cleaning about the same old problem.  Cart before the horse, literally.  Cleaner arrives before the refuse collection.  Result?  Another complaint from me to the Council.Who is in charge of Ealing Council these days?  Name escapes me, wonder why?  Bring back Jason Stacey please.  He listened, he talked, he walked around and he cleaned the place up.  I bet he wondered why he ever bothered in the first place.  What a great job......you spend 4 years working to change your borough and then in one night, another party come in and throw it all away.

B.T. what a  palaver

Just had three hours of a right palaver.Lost my internet connection, so phoned the 0800 number, went through press 1, 2, etc, and eventually got connected to the call centre.  After 31mins 24 sec, I found out I was in India.  Just as well it was the 0800 number.  Could you open Mozilla or Explorer,...No I have no internet connection, O.K. we will do a land line check, but, it's not the line, it's the internet.  Eventually I was told we will try and fix the fault from here (India.) After another hour, of stupidity, I was asked for my mobile number, so they could call me back, at 10pm.Isn't funny that things get fixed very quickly when one starts cancelling a provider.

New Ealing Council Director of Property & Regeneration - THE OAKS

Brendon Walsh (the present Ealing Council Director of Property and Regeneration) has now moved on to Hounslow LBC to take up a new role as Director of Regeneration, Education and Environment.His current Ealing Council deputy, LUCY TAYLOR, is to take over from him as Director of Property and Regeneration.So - this is the lady who is advise/recommend to the Ealing Councillors which development should be taking place on the Oaks site.Perhaps she should be invited to any resident meetings which may about to take place which will be discussing the Oaks Development.It would be interesting to hear her views.

ADT Scam

Last Friday two people knocked on our door claiming to be from ADT (burglar alarm company) and offering to fit an ADT alarm for free as having the ADT alarm sign on our house would be a good advertising opportunity for them. We said we weren't interested. As it happens I had already arranged to meet an ADT representative for a quote and when I meet him yesterday I mentioned the 'promotion' they had in the area.He said that he was from ADT head office, he was the only sales consultant in this area and he wasn't aware of any 'promotion' or of any ADT representatives knocking on doors without having an appointment.I'm not sure if this is a scam or not but please be careful about letting these people into your house.

rodent infestation

People of helpful Acton,I had a spate of mice in my scout hut, and thought I had cleared the problem, unfortunately they are back, the poos and damage look like larger critters, can anybody provide some really good advice in how to get rid of them, or even give me the name of a decent pest controller.Cheers

TNT deliveries

I received two letters today via TNT - one for me, one for the wrong address.  After two phone calls to TNT, they arranged for someone to come and pick up the wrong letter and redeliver it.  Good job I don't work and was at home, but it was a bit of a nuisance.  I understand that it can be reposted, but when the correct recipient would receive it remains to be seen.

Crossrail Insulation Offer

Was wondering if anyone on the forum received Network Rail's offer to install additional glazing and blinds to reduce the impact of noise from Crossrail works?Although I have not taken up the offer, just feel at the very least Network Rail could have offered double glazing, but realise they are keeping tabs on their expenditure.

DIY Help Needed

Hi - unusual request but does anyone know a handyman or specialist who could fix Roman blinds? They are in our main bedroom - look lovely but constantly get stuck. I've been able to fix them myself before but this time I've been defeated.
