drop off to Maples for March

Hi everyone, I have a little boy who is 22 months and will hopefully be going to Maples on a Thursday and Friday starting from the 10th March. I am looking for someone who would be able to work from 7.15-8.15am on a Thursday and Friday, taking him to Maples for 8am. I am hoping that someone will have a great idea to help me out. Can someone remind me of the address for the site used to list things neighbours are willing to lend/give away.  Possibly describing it badly but can't remember much about it other than the above and a forum search reveals nothing useful. Not freeserve, this was a local one I think.Many thanks

Getting rid of books

Any ideas as to how I can shed around 300-400 books?  Ideally, I would like a general book dealer to come and collect the lot - I'm not worried about payment, although a small amount would be nice.  I could, of course, unload them on Oxfam, but they don't collect, and I don't have a car.  They are a mixed bag - some Folio Society books, and then books by Kipling, Masefield, Buchan, books on history, modern novels, who done its, and quite a few paperbacks.  Any suggestions gratefully received!

It's All Kicking Off    (again)

I am thankfully watching this on TV from the comfort of my home, but as with the past 2 'protests' there is now quite a lot of violence kicking of, with 'protesters' throwing fireworks and Snooker balls (that's a new one, the snooker balls) the Police are very well organised and have started 'kettling' the protesters as it starts to get dark, this is on Sky news, it looks like the worst one so far in terms of violence from police and protesters.

South Acton Estate Phase 1 (2.3) Planning Meeting 15/12

Ealing Council Planning Committee will be considering the application for the development of the vacant site adjacent to Bollo Bridge Road, All Saints Road and Palmerston Road (formerly occupied by Bollo Court and Kipling Tower).The proposal has 9-storey block running the length of the perimeter on the North side, abutting Bollo Bridge Road.I think this is at least 4 storeys too tall and will undermine the work done so far to humanise the scale of the new buildings on the south side of the estate.I plan to object on this basis and have been invited to the planning meeting. But the invitation makes clear that the commitee will only hear one objection for a maximum of 3 minutes, and that if there is more than one objection, a single spokesman needs to represent the views of all objectors. Democracy at its finest.Do any other Forum readers have objections to this proposal?

Jim Naughtie's hysterical confusion over the name of the culture Secretary on the morning's programme...got his Hunt tangled with his Culture with inevitable spoonerist result - then repeated by Andrew Marror the fact that the BBC has censored it on the iplayer by cutting out the offending three seconds leaving a obscenity-shaped hole in transmission.As if you couldn't hear it on youtube and everywhere else.PS apparently the DCMS refer to their much-loathed minister as "Corrible Hunt"

Morrisons supermarket sinks to new low in customer relations

Our local friendly grocer (i.e Morrisons) have introduced a car parking scam.   They've installed cctv cameras which monitor you going in and out.   If you go over 2 hours, they will send you a "penalty charge notice" demanding £90 (yes, £90!!).  There is nothing official about this - they have hired a private contractor who would have to take you to court to get you to pay.  But I doubt they would win - this is an illegal and unenforceable penalty, so do not pay, challenge it and shop elsewhere. This compares with other supermarkets which operate proper gate and ticketing.  So if, for example, you go over the 2 hours free parking you pay something like £5. Nice to know that Morrisons value their local customers.

Tuition fees vote

I wrote to Angie Bray a few days ago about the tuition fees vote, but have had no reply as yet. As I only moved to Acton a few months ago (hello!), does anyone know if she's expressed an opinion before? Google has not been my friend so far in trying to dig anything up.I was in the very first year of paying £3,000 and it was hard enough to make that decision even with a very supportive family behind me. How anyone could face £9,000 I don't know.

WINTER GATHER SAT 18th Dec

A.P.P.L.E are holding a Winter Gathering and Lantern Procession on Sat 18th Dec 2.30 - 5.30pm. The lantern procession will start from the ART BLOCK in Acton Park at 3.30pm and arrive at Morrisons at 4pm, the procession will return to the ART BLOCK at 4.30 for wonderful warming food and drink. Burglary

Unfortunately I was burgled on Weds between 8am and 130pm My laptop was taken plus a camera a mobile phone a small black Delsey shoulder bag and a quantity of drink.If anyone comes across a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1718 with a Targus carrybag I would be very pleased to hear from them. The unique identifiers for the laptop are that it has a sticking left shift key and a pirate verion of Windows Messenger ( installed by my errant elder son!)Many Thanks

Rainbows places available

Acton District Rainbows (part of Girl Guides) has places available for girls aged 5 and 6 years. Weekly sessions take place on Wednesdays from 5-6pm in the hall behind Acton Hill Church.
