mice, help please?

We have mice and was wondering what was the best way of getting rid of them. Have poison and traps out but so far we have only caught one! Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good mouse catcher?

Christmas contingency plans

If the Aged Parent and I are unable to fly to family in Switzerland this week - any recommendations for local pubs/restaurants for an alternative christmas dinner?  Is everywhere going to be booked up solid or is there scope just to turn up on the day (or ring for a delivery!).

Car towed away

Does anyone have any advice on cars being towed away from private land?  Our car was parked on private land but it's outside my office and we have a permit for the car to park there in the daytime. However, as I now know, you can't park there after 9pm as your car then be clamped and ultimately towed away, which is what's happened. This act in itself isn't a problem, there are signs there, albeit not very clear signs,  but the charge they are trying to apply prety much amounts to extortion, £320 if it's picked up tomorrow by 5pm. Can anyone suggest where we can get some advice on this?  We are going to pay the charge to release the car but I want to take this matter further as I don't feel that this charge is reasonable. Any advice?

Washing machine installation - Help required!

just taken delivery of a new washer/dryer but the installation guys couldnt fit it because it looks like the kitchen has been built around the machine.  I now have to get a kitchen fitter to take off the worktops and cupboards to access the pipework/electrics!Anyone got any recommendations for good handymen/kitchen fitters who could install it?Many thanksLisa

Winter Wonderland @ Ravenor Farm

This weekend (11th & 12th) see the opening of The Winter Wonderland @ Ravenor Farm, Greenford. Official opening by The Mayor of Ealing and I Love Thunder, Ealing's ONLY Inclusive band will be playing there live on Saturday morning. Lost Cat, Acton Central, Can You Help?

Our cat has been missing since Tuesday 23rd November, has anyone spotted him?He is a large black and white longhair (not fat, fluffy!) with a thin purple collar. Development alert.....Shakespeare Road

Being sold for development......89/91 Shakespeare Road. Offers in excess of 1 million.......Lots of interest from buyers in this historical building which, in 1866, housed Actons first privately owned swimming baths fed by an artesian well underneath the building and land within. Evidence of the swimming pool can still be seen to this day. Comes with it's own ghost !!......something i can attest to.Another piece of Acton's history sadly going........

Power cuts

I have been affected by power cuts for the last 4 weeks; this week being by far the worse. I've had power cuts every evening since Monday. Anyone else affected thinks that not enough is being done to remedy the problem?

Missing the illuminated house..

the one in Poets Corner that used to have a grand lighting up on December 1st. They had been threatening to stop for some time when the kids grew up - but it was a lovely community event.I never thought I would miss the display, but I doThere seem to be many fewer lit up houses this year - or am I just moving about less?An effect of the recession maybe.

Disconnecting a gas fire

Does anyone know about getting a gas fire disconnected? Looks like a simple job. Don't really want to pay a huge call out fee for a job which takes a few minutes. I think Transco disconnected the last one when 2 magpies came down the chimney a few years ago. If I remember rightly it didn't take very long.

Christmas in Acton

I clicked the article ''Christmas in Acton'' on the front page expecting to read some interesting stories about seasonal events and special offers at shops, bars and restaurants in Acton. After all, Acton covers a huge area and there must be so many shops, bars and restaurants that many of us have never heard of.Unfortunately, instead it seems to just feature the same advertisers that run banners across the top of this page and feature prominently in several stories on the front page.Maybe there should be a header ''ADVERTISEMENT'' on the page as they do in newspapers. (and yes I am aware that ActonW3 survives on the fees these advertisers pay)

Gas Safety Certificate

Does anyoine know a gas safe/corgi registered engineer? I just need our restaurant kitchen boiler checked (its working fine) and a certificate signed to keep inspectors happy. (the guy we used to use has moved away sadly).
