HEALING IN CHISWICK

Another year!  Our first session for 2011 will take place at the London Buddhist Vihara, The Avenue, W4 1UD between 11am and 1pm and we look forward to seeing anyone who would like some healing, either just for an energy boost, stress or a physical illness.Although the centre takes place in the Buddhist Temple the healing is NOT related to any religion, it is totally non-denominational everyone is welcome.No charge is made for healing however a donation is most welcome - all donations are given to the Vihara for the use of the hall.No appointments are necessary.  For any further information please give me a ring on 0788 189 6449.

Xmas trees and Acton Park

Over the last few days I've watched dozens of trees being dropped inside the entrance of Acton Park. Is this a known and acceptable practice or just a (large) number of people taking liberties. I would have thought that you would be expected to take them to the local tip or recycle centre. Just interested to know what people thoughts are?

A rubbish collection

does anyone know if the council decided just to pick up some of the recycling this week? they left our green bin and food bin but took the plastic!i dont want to complain un necessarily as getting a 15 tonne lorry to come and specially collect my recycling seems against what recycling is about but ive run out of room ! and er its xmas

Reuse of computer parts

I have several functional computer parts (e.g. RAM) that I no longer require. Does anyone know of a local charity that is looking for part to reuse?I did previously dispose of some via the Chiswick Recycling Action Group   http://www.crag-online.org.ukwhich now seems to be moribund.

The Real cost of Free Schools to London’s Children

Last summer the government announced it was taking £50 million from the Harnessing Technology Grant to help pay for set-up costs of free schools.  Roughly £5 million of that money was taken from primary, secondary and special schools in London.Yesterday, I attended a meeting between a number of senior London teachers and Brian Durrant, the Chief Executive of the London Grid For Learning (LGFL).  The LGFL is an award winning, not for profit organisation which procures digital content and provides Internet filtering and broadband connections for London Schools.  To see what has been available for London’s children have a look at the Content Grid on their website at lgfl.net.  A large chunk of the Harnessing Technology grant was spent strategically by Local Education Authorities on the LGFL.  Unfortunately, as the grant has been reduced the services will also now have to be reduced.  Letters will be going to all London schools in January 2011 explaining exactly what has been cut and what they will have to pay more for out of a dwindling pot.  At the meeting Brian Durrant told teachers that he has written to Michael Gove twice explaining the effect of the cuts on schools and asking him to reconsider.  Gove did not reply to either letter.  From April these cuts will affect every single state school in Hammersmith & Fulham as well as schools in Ealing, Kensington and Chelsea and every other LEA in the UK. On the WLFS website there is the following FAQ:"Will the WLFS divert resources from Hammersmith and Fulham’s existing schools?"I think the real answer is somewhat different to the one they claim.

Churchfield Road closing on Xmas Eve till the New Yearoi

Well that's what it feels like...Angela Malik, Lavellis and the Village Trading Co to mention just three are closing tomorrow and re-opening on the 4th or 5th January.I don't know what other places are doing - except Pro-hands is closing on the 1st January for sometime - at least ten days I think.

RIP Rev David Caton

You may have come across David, either taking services at various churches well into his retirement, or serving food at Emmaus House and the Damien Centre.He was a man of great learning but he wore it lightly.  He loved witty wordplay and asking outrageous questions to get people thinking.  He loved opera and went to as many performances as possible, but he also paid for others to go to theatre and opera who were unlikely to afford it themselves.A truly great man who I was proud to know.  Acton will be the poorer for his passing.The funeral is at St Peter's, Southfield Road, on Friday at 2pm.

The Perfect Lodger

We have here, in our home, the perfect lodger - a hard working, young man who requires a good home as we are moving this week.This young man is away most weekends to see his family and,  quite simply, he needs/requires a room with his own shower/microwave with a comfy bed and table where he can work.Surely, in Acton Central, there are people with such a home,  who would really appreciate such a decent, peaceful person renting their spare room - he completely pays his way and just wants to get on with his life without bothering others!!!! - not everyone wants a house share, with all the noise!!!If you think this would suit you, please come back to us if you are interested - he is highly recommended and we are all so fond of him.Mrs B

Help starting a local foodbank.

I recently read an article about foodbanks and am thinking of starting one locally. As I understand it, the nearest ones are in Hammersmith and Hillingdon. Does anyone know if there are any schemes already being run locally? Is anyone able to offer any advice, suggestions or practical help? Can anyone think of a suitable local venue? Fridge Freezer

Any ideas here the best place to purchase a new fridge freezer is? I have a max height of around 135cm but need to see the fridges in the face so to speak as its so confusing trying to order on line.
