Lots of spare fabric looking for a good home

Pure Gym Noise - Part 2

As my original post was removed , let's try again. The newly opened gym below the new flats is affecting the residents above with the loud music. Especially during the 6:30am class!Have tried the council and the gym but to little effect. Anyone have any further advice?

Thames Path walking group

We will be setting off for Marlowe this coming Sunday, meeting Ealing Broadway station at 09.30. More detailed information is on the Facebook page which now has 23 members. Photos and comments on the walks are also on the page. Please do join us. Not everyone walks every time and some do part of the walk. Newcomers, children (who are willing) and dogs all very welcome. Contact me for details. What else would you  be doing before lunch on Sunday? PS not teaching my grandmother or anything but you will need good walking boots or shoes and a real waterproof coat. Borrowing the outfit is recommended if you are just trying it out. We will appreciate your company.

Burglary

Just to let the forum know - we live on Stuart Road and a neighbour has had her door opened at about 5am- 6am-ish, the car keys taken and then the car stolen. We have seen a few suspect people saying they are sheltering from the rain in people's doorways.

A&E's a joke and they haven't been closed yet!!!!

Last Wednesday I suffered a nasty foot injury having stood on some broken glass. Not realising the extent of the injury I figured let's go into the walk in UCAD centre at central middx. Figured nurse would just patch me up and send me on my way. However nurse did see me and put dressings onto the wound. After an hour I was bleeding through the dressings and my fiancé had to patch me up. Had my x rays to make sure no glass was in the cut. Waited three hours for a doctor who took one look at my injury and said 'sorry cant help you, you will have to go to hammersmith, charring cross, northwick park, st Mary's or ealing. Hammersmith advised us on arrival that they had no one to help. We then went to ealing where we waited almost five hours to be treated. Despite the fact that I had just had stitches onto the arch of my foot I was never offered any crutches in order to help me get around and my fiancé had to carry me out of the hospital to the car. A&E departments are being closed down and  those remaining can not cope. This is a disgrace. As a conservative voter all my life my views are changing. Maybe I should run for government or local authority I would soon bring things into line.

Crossrail works Overnight this weekend - update

Acton Yard Crossrail Works: Information Bulletin Saturday 16 November – Friday 13 December 2013 We need to do some additional work this weekend which was not included in the previous bulletin. The information in this bulletin therefore supersedes the information on work from 16 November onwards in the last bulletin sent to residents. All works highlighted in red are the particularly noisy works which residents may notice. Saturday 16 November to Friday 22 November Sunday (00.01 – 16.00) Piling for overhead line equipment just to the east of Noel Road Bridge. This involves driving tubular steel piles into the ground and is likely to generate some hammering noise and possible vibration. Saturday (22.00) to Sunday (16.00) Excavation of ballast on the yard side to the east of Noel Road Bridge. Followed by laying of new rail track Sunday (16.00-20:00) Tamping ballasted areas which may create some noise. Monday to Saturday (08.00 – 18.00) Works include: Laying new track by diveunder Constructing the base of the diveunder Works to install the pump chamber near Noel Road Delivery of rails and sleepers to Acton Yard Continuing building track sections in Acton Yard Continued excavation of the dive-under and ancillary works to the structure General works on site and along the track 24 hours a day Small boring machine will be tunnelling from opposite Oakley House under the tracks to create a new drainage system. Sunday (00.01 -05.00) Overhead line cable works will take place along the track. Residents may notice machinery on the track.

Spencer Road - parking vouchers

I am overseeing an electrician visiting my daughter's flat in Spencer Road on Friday but don't have any parking vouchers.  Is there a kind neighbour that could sell me a couple or, better still, a book?  I think she is in zone K but will have to drive past to double check.

Drains

Can anyone rent or lend me a kind of drain cleaner described as looking like a pump for airbeds? One Shot usually does the trick, but has only semi cleared my kitchen drain this time. I am recommended the pump thing and wondered if anyone local to me had one I could borrow?

Traffic lights out of action and no police?

Three times in the last couple of weeks, I have noticed traffic lights out of action at a major junction in the area and no attendance by the police - twice at Gipsy Corner and once at Ealing Common. It is very scary having to take your life in your hands and try to cross the A40 with no pedestrian crossing, not to mention the huge traffic build up on either side  - especially from Victoria Road. It's a pity that in these circumstances the traffic on the main road (eg A40) can't be more sensitive to the needs of pedestrians who have been waiting for 20 minutes or so to cross. At Ealing Common, I was a driver myself and again it was scary to edge out across oncoming traffic moving at reasonable speed. Surely some agency is respoNsible for these crossings and responsible for getting the police to step in when the lights are out of action?

The Oaks - let's stop the political point scoring

I was as unhappy about the Oaks planning decision as anyone – I attended the demonstration the Saturday before and my wife went to the planning committee meeting – but I am disgusted by the way that some people have tried to turn this into a party political issue, and the lies they have hurled against individual councillors.Can I just remind everyone of a few facts:The council does not own the land (the car park has already been sold for a hefty price) and planning law does not give the council the power to keep on blocking the development without good reason. This is the third planning proposal for the Oaks site. Compared to the previous proposals, the council has successfully reduced the height of the development but to keep on blocking the plans could have left the council exposed to legal action. I think the council should have pushed back harder earlier, but we must understand the weak position it was in.It is completely false to claim that the planning proposal was “whipped through” or that council leader Julian Bell “lobbied” for the plans.  I have talked to several of the councillors involved and they insist the decision was made strictly according to the planning rules. They felt bound to accept a plan they thought was the best that could be achieved in the circumstances and, at least, was better than nothing. The Oaks, as well as the Town Hall and Baths redevelopment, are vital to transforming Acton into the area we all want it to be.Labour was not united - the three Labour councillors for Acton Central, the most affected ward, all have big reservations about the project and two of them attended the demonstration and spoke out at the planning meeting. Labour has not made this a political issue, but the other parties are trying to do so, distributing misleading leaflets and making false allegations on fora like this one. If anything, the Tories and the Liberals would appear to be the ones who were “whipped”, by voting en mass to reject the plan. They are desperate to land some blows anyway they can on what they know is a very successful council.I believe those of us who are unhappy about the plans should join the lobby of the London Mayor and if that fails, should redouble our efforts to ensure the second phase of the project is better than the first. If we all stand together on this, rather than peddle lies and try to score cheap political points, we will be much more effective.
